Earthquake Haiti: Aide et Action on the front line
Aide et Action, who have been running education programs for the poor in Haiti since 1989, launched a call for donations to help the hard-hit population. The international solidarity association has mobilized its Dominican Republic staff to bring a fast and efficient support.
We have finally heard from our staff in Haiti. “The Aide et Action desk in Haiti has been destroyed and nobody can enter it as the building is likely to collapse any time soon. Fortunately, we have not lost any staff members (…). At the end of the day, after several hours of efforts, a coordination meeting is organized on the border with the Dominican Republic staff, the Haiti team led by Alain Bangoura and all those who are able to come. We discuss emergencies, fund-raising operations, logistic, new office, coordination with international and national partners…”. Nesmy Manigat, Latin America-Caribbean Head, reports about his first hours in Haiti after the tremblor. He left Saint-Domingue on January 13th to join his Haitian colleagues. A second team left the Dominican Republic on January 14th. Find Nesmy Manigat’s whole testimony and the pictures of his journey in the ruins of the Haitian capital on the association’s website: http://www.aide-et-action.org/ewb_pages/t/temoignage-haiti.php
Our Dominican staff has immediately launched a call for donations and emergency supplies to be brought from the Dominican Republic.
To help an already hard-hit population (8 Haitian inhabitants out of 10 live with less than €2 per day), Aide et Action immediately launched a call for donation and is working fast to deliver aid. “The emergency today is to support a traumatized population, to bring aid to thousands of Haitian children and adults who have lost everything”, explains Florent Marcoux, Aide et Action France Head.
Aide et Action, which has been present in Haiti since 1989, developed emergency and post-emergency programmes in 2008 after the cyclonic season destroyed the country and made thousands of victims.
